All on 4 Dental Implants

Providing unique support for dentures

With All on 4 implants, you can have a full set of teeth supported by a total of 4 implants in each jaw.

In the case of complete tooth loss, All-on-4 can be a good solution.

4 titanium screw implants in your jaw hold all-on-four dental implants permanently in place. It is common to have the dentures placed on the same day as the surgery with the same appearance as natural teeth. In addition, the dentures are secured into place so they cannot be removed.

Which benefits come with All on 4 dental implants?

– Basically, they look as good as natural teeth – excellent implant-supported dentures
– Comfort is assured
– As they’re firmly secured, they make it easier to speak and eat a diverse diet.
– Maintaining a youthful appearance is made easier with them. The same is true for bones; if you don’t exercise them, they shrink. You can appear prematurely aged when your jawbones shrink. Dentures that are attached to implants prevent bone and muscle loss.

How can All on 4 be a good fit for someone?

All-on-4 implants are a great solution to a number of dental problems such as:

– Broken, damaged, or decayed teeth – A reduction in teeth quality can be caused by medications, gum disease, accidents, and illness. A cost-effective procedure such as All-on-4 may be appropriate.
– Loose dentures – After tooth loss, the jawbone can shrink, causing loose fitting dentures, especially in the lower jaw. Many people do not cope well with dentures due to problems with speech or other factors.
– Missing multiple teeth – All-on-4 may be an option for you if you are missing several teeth.

How does All-on-4 differ from other implant-supported dentures?

The All on 4 procedure can sometimes be used for people who aren’t typically suitable candidates for implant-supported dentures. Anatomical limitations and bone deficiencies are avoided by placing implants at particular angles.

In California, where is the surgery performed?
Under IV sedation and/or local anesthetic, your surgery will be performed in a California private hospital under general anaesthetic or at Dr. John Doe’s Lindfield clinic (located 20 minutes from California) under general anesthetic. Whenever possible, Dr. John Doe gets general anesthesia administered by a medical doctor who is a specialized anesthetist.

The First Appointment

Before your All on 4 treatment
In order to ensure your new smile is stable and long-lasting, we will take the time to plan it carefully. Dr. John Doe, a leading oral and maxillofacial surgeon, will pay meticulous attention to every detail of your treatment.

Based on the particular circumstances of your case, Dr. Doe will discuss the various treatment options available to you and the advantages and disadvantages of each. In order to make an informed decision on the best option for you, the doctor understands that he must inform you fully of all your options.

Your medical history will be reviewed by Dr. John Doe to assess your overall health, including any medications you are taking and any pre-existing conditions you may have.

What is the procedure for implant surgery?

To have implant-supported dentures, you must have a sufficient amount of bone in the jaw, and other than that, you may be required to have some bone grafts first.

How long does the entire procedure take?
It will take 30 to 60 minutes for the titanium screws to be inserted in your gum, depending on the complexity of your surgery. Implant screws are inserted into your jawbone after your gums have been opened. It is standard practice for Dr. John Doe to place two straight dental implants in your mouth, then two more implant-like structures at an angle in the back.

Immediately following implant placement, Dr. John Doe will work with your referring dentist or a restorative dentist to fit you with an implant-supported denture.

Is my surgery going to cause me pain?
Our practice receives this question frequently so let us take a second to provide us with some guidance on what can be expected after you have an all-on-4 implant.

Discomfort following treatment
After your procedure, you may experience some general discomfort. The most common cause of this is bruising and/or swelling (which is common following surgery). Dr. John Doe will prescribe you pain relief medication, however, in order to reduce your pain significantly.

Our team can work with you to develop a plan for reducing your anxiety about dental treatments if you are concerned about them. Our success in overcoming dental treatment fears has led us to believe we can do the same for you.

Postoperative Issues

Following your surgery, you may experience some of the following issues.

Bleeding – Ice packs can usually relieve bleeding and you should avoid physical activity while you are experiencing blood loss.
Dietary Restriction – During the first few days after surgery, it is best to avoid hard or hot foods. During your first few days of recovery, restricting your diet to liquids and pureed foods can be helpful.
Dry Lips – Applying Lip Balm or Chapstick when you experience dry lips can help them stay moisturized.
Stiff Jaw – Perform some gentle jaw stretching exercises throughout the day if your jaw has become stiff due to being static for a long time.
Bruising – Any type of surgery usually results in this type of swelling which dissipates after a few days.
Nausea – There is a possibility that some patients with all on 4 may experience nausea or vomiting caused by taking medication or from accidentally swallowing blood. These are usually mild symptoms that can usually be alleviated with some carbonated water or salty crackers.

Recovering from surgery

All-on-four Day surgery:
You will need assistance getting home if you’re under a general anesthetic or intravenous sedation. It is possible to drive home yourself if under local anesthesia.

Management of pain:
Every person experiences pain differently, but Nurofen® and Panadol® should be sufficient for most people. Any swelling or pain can be reduced by using an icepack.

School/Work:
All-on-four implant teeth patients usually go back to work one day after their surgery, though some have to take a few more days off.

Dental Stitches:
The most common type of stitch is the dissolving stitch. Over the course of 1-2 weeks, they gradually dissolve.

Diet:
Following dental implant surgery, eat soft foods for 2 to 3 days. By the end of the first to second week following surgery, you should be able to eat and drink normally again.

Follow up:
Immediately following the surgery, Dr. John Doe will want to determine how well you have healed.

During your first consultation with John Doe, he will give you detailed instructions pertaining to the post-operative period. Following these instructions carefully will give you the best chance of making a quick recovery. Post-Op and Patient Care offers general information related to post-op care.
