WHAT HAPPENS IF WE FORGET TO CLEAN OUR TEETH?

Failure to maintain appropriate oral hygiene can result in the following:

EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUR FIRST CHECKUP

Cleanings take roughly an hour, and new patient visits take a little longer. We pride ourselves on getting to know each of our patients and adapting therapies to their specific health needs and objectives. What to expect when you visit our office for the first time:

Dental History — A hygienist will compile your dental and medical histories so that we may have a complete picture of your present health, including any medical issues that may affect dental treatment.

Digital X-Rays — For your complete oral checkup, we use digital x-rays as a diagnostic tool. Please send your x-rays to our office if they were taken within the last 12 months. Please advise the hygienist while giving your medical history if you are unable to have x-rays taken.

Oral Examinations and Teeth Examinations — We do a periodontal examination (a visual examination of the teeth) before conducting oral cancer/lesion screening, such as for cancer, heart disease, and diabetes symptoms.

Examination of Gums and Teeth Cleaning — Your hygienist will measure your gums, identifying areas of tartar, plaque, and calculus buildup, then clean your teeth with a probe, rinsing thoroughly after each step. Habits of Oral Hygiene—We conclude your visit by discussing and reiterating the importance of proper dental hygiene.

HOW TO PREVENT TOOTH DECAY WITH ADEQUATE ORAL HYGIENE:

There are many simple and inexpensive treatments to combat tooth decay, a prevalent chronic health condition.

PROCEDURES FOR TEETH CLEANING

Your dental hygienist will identify and remove plaque (a soft film that may be removed by brushing) and tartar (a hardened plaque that requires dental equipment to remove) when you come in for a cleaning. We make every effort to clean all surfaces of your teeth, including the microscopic gaps between teeth and along gum lines, which are breeding grounds for bacteria.

Prophy paste is frequently used to finish the cleaning process. Its gritty texture eliminates any lingering plaque and leaving the teeth glossy and smooth as it dissolves into a finer texture. We will alert you to any locations where plaque and tartar have formed so that you can floss and brush those regions more frequently. Our goal is to make it simple and effective for you to take care of your teeth.

ARE THERE MANY TYPES OF TEETH CLEANING?

No. The sole dental procedure of its kind is prophylaxis, which is a fancy phrase for teeth cleaning. Every six months, prophylaxis entails a thorough cleaning of the teeth.

Periodontal treatments are procedures that are commonly referred to as "cleanings":
